How to Keep Your Hair Frizz Free This Summer

We all love to have fun in the sun, however, the summer heat can wreak havoc on our hair.  The humidity, heat and warm ocean breeze the summer brings, can cause the best styled hair to frizz.  There is nothing more frustrating than styling your hair and then have it look like you just rolled out of bed the minute you open your front door. We have a few tips that will help keep your tresses tame and looking good all summer long.

Don’t Shampoo Every Day

Washing your hair daily strips your hair of its natural oils and dries it out. This will make your hair more prone to frizz.  Rather than washing every day, skip a day and let the natural oils build back up on your scalp and hair.  By reducing how often you wash your hair, you help keep your hair smoother and tamer.

Condition Every Day

Shampooing every day is not a good thing but conditioning is.  Applying a conditioner on a daily basis will add the moisture to your hair that is necessary to help control frizz.  You can apply a conditioner in the shower or a leave in conditioner prior to styling.  If conditioning in the shower, rinse your hair with cool water to help seal the hair cuticle.

Deep Overnight Conditioning

Apply an all-natural oil such as 100% Coconut Oil to your hair prior to bed.  Apply enough oil to your hair so that your hair looks and feels wet.  Tie your hair up in a ponytail or bun and if you like, cover with a shower cap.  Leave the oil in your hair for a minimum of 30 minutes or for better results, overnight.  The 100% Coconut Oil will soak into your hair giving it the nutrients needed for healthy, smooth hair that is frizz free.  Gently wash your hair in the morning.

Don’t Over Towel Your Hair

After showering, carefully remove the moisture from your hair by patting it dry with a towel.  If you harshly rub a towel over your hair to remove moisture, you may cause damage to your hair which can result in split ends.  Damaged hair and split ends are more likely to frizz than healthy hair.  Carefully pat your hair and gently squeeze the moisture out.

Avoid the Hair Blower

Heat is drying and dry hair frizzes.  When you dry your hair, make sure you get all the moisture out first.  Blow drying very wet hair will cause your hair to frizz faster than blow drying hair that is just damp. The less heat you apply the better off your hair will be.

Use a Styling Agent Before Blow Drying.

If you do use a hair blower, before drying, apply a styling agent to protect your hair.  All-natural oils such as 100% Coconut Oil and 100% Argan Oil are ideal choices if you want a 100% natural moisturizer.  Natural oils help replenish and seal in moisture.  These oils also give your hair the right amount of weight to help prevent frizz.  Just apply a small amount and massage it though your hair.  Argan Hair Serum is another option.  Argan Oil is a natural moisturizer rich in nutrients that will nourish and tame your hair. This rich serum is a paraben free formula designed to help control frizz and smooth hair.

Add Some Shine

Once your hair is styled use a lightweight hair shine that is nutrient rich.  Coconut Hair Shine and Argan Hair Shine are two ideal products that repair damaged hair, add shine and help to control frizz.  You can use this periodically throughout the day if you feel your hair starting to go out of control.  A few light sprays will help fight the frizz.

Wear Your Hair Up

Ponytails, buns and braids are a great way to ward off the frizz.  Not only are these styles fun but they are functional.  Once you have your hair up in a stylish summer fashion smooth the top of your hair or any flyaways with your choice of a 100% Natural Oil, Hair Serum or Hair Shine.  Periodically throughout the day if needed, you can smooth your hair out by reapplying a small amount.

Don’t let the hot dog days of summer take control of your hair.  Follow our simple steps above and you will have well nourished, moisturized flowing locks all summer long.
